Birth Anniversary of Ramakrishna Paramhansa
Date of Birth: February 18, 1836
Place of Birth: Kamarpukur village, Hoogly District, Bengal Presidency
- He was an Indian mystic and yogi during the 19th century.
- Ramakrishna was given to spiritual ecstasies from a young age, and was influenced by several religious traditions, including devotion toward the goddess Kali, Tantra, Vaishnavabhakti, and Advaita Vedanta.
- Reverence and admiration for him amongst Bengali elites led to the formation of the Ramakrishna Mission by his chief disciple Swami Vivekananda. His devotees look upon him as an incarnation or Avatara of the formless Supreme Brahman as described in the Vedanta while some devotees see him as an avatara of Vishnu.

Philosophy:
- In 1855 Ramkumar was appointed as the priest of Dakshineswar Kali Temple

Disciples
Most of Ramakrishna’s prominent disciples came between 1879–1885. His chief disciples consisted of:
- Grihasthas or The householders—Mahendranath Gupta, Girish Chandra Ghosh, Mahendra Lal Sarkar, Akshay Kumar Senand others.
- A small group of women disciples including Gauri Ma and Yogin Ma. A few of them were initiated into sanyasa through mantra deeksha. Among the women, Ramakrishna emphasised service to other women rather than tapasya (practice of austerities). Gauri Ma founded the Saradesvari Ashrama at Barrackpur, which was dedicated to the education and uplift of women.
