Birth Anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji

• Shivaji full name was Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Shivaji Raje Bhosale.
• He was the founder of Maratha Empire in India.
• Shivaji Maharaj was a brave and kind emperor.

Early life

• Shivaji Maharaj was born on February 19, 1630, at Shivneri, a hill fort near Pune district.
• Shivaji Maharaj was a brave from his childhood, and he also showed qualities of a ruler and became great kind emperor.
• Shivaji Maharaj father name was Shahaji Raje Bhosale, and he employed as an officer in the army of the Sultan of Bijapur.

• He inspired his people so much that the Maratha Empire continued to fight the Mughal rule for 27 years after his death. He takes the last breath of his life in the year of 1680.

• In 1904, he was formally appointed a CIE or Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire in the New Year’s Honors List by the British Empire for his services.

Death

• He died on February 19, 1915.
• His political opponent, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, said at his funeral, “This diamond of India, this jewel of Maharashtra, this prince of workers is taking eternal rest on funeral ground. Look at him and try to emulate him.”

Birth Anniversary of U.V. Swaminatha Iyer 

• Uttamadhanapuram Venkatasubbaiyer Swaminatha Iyer  was a Tamil scholar and researcher who was instrumental in bringing many long-forgotten works of classical Tamil literature to light.
• His singular effort over five decades brought to light major literary works in Tamil and contributed vastly to the enrichment of its literary heritage.
• He is affectionately called Tamil Thatha(Grandfather of Tamil).

Early life

• Utthamadhanapuram Venkatasubramanian Swaminathan was born on 19 February 1855 in the village of Suriaymoolai near Kumbakonam in present-day Tamil Nadu.
• Swaminatha Iyer learned Tamil literature and grammar for five years as a devoted student to Mahavidwan Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai, a great poet and scholar.
• Another significant contribution made by Swaminatha Iyer is in the realm of Tamil music.
• In 1919 UV Swaminatha Iyer retired and later he joined as a principal in Meenakshi Tamil College, Kumbakonam.

Awards and Achievements

• In 1887 U.V Swaminatha Iyer successfully published Seevaga Sinthamani , after that he published Pattupattu.
• In 1906, UV Swaminatha Iyer got honorary Doctoral Degree by the University of Madras.
• In 1906 , UV Swaminatha Iyer got Mahamahopathiyaya Award – “Greatest of Greatest Teachers”
• In 1925, UV Swaminatha Iyer got the Title Dakshina Kalanidhi
• In 1940-42 Auto biography of UV Swaminatha Iyer En Sarithiram got published in Ananda Vikadan Tamil Weekly magazine and 1950 it was published as a book.
• In 2006, Indian Postal Department released commemorative postage stamp with , UV Swaminatha Iyer photo.

• UV Swaminatha Iyer published lot of important books, otherwise we may not have a single line from those books like,
• Cilapathigaram written by Ilango Adigal , one of five epic in ancient Tamil Literature, Manimegalai written by Seethalai Saathanar, one of the five Epic in ancient Tamil Litreature and Parananuru, one of the Pathinen melkanakku books of Sangam Period written by more than 150 poets, are published by UV Swaminatha Iyer .

Death

Due to health problem he resigned his job in 1927 and he involved in manu scripting, Editing and publishing until his death on 28th April 1942.
